Interesting blog! I'm from the uk and trying to decide whether to check in to foursquare and gowalla on my trips to Bruges and Amsterdam. Didn't know you could check in via wifi which is awesome!

I still think the majority of the world has no idea about this "cutting edge" stuff and it will inevitably be the large corporations that adopt the free wifi approach. It's a shame though as will be a further reason why tourists will probably avoid small local businesses.

LOL. I've got to keep 'em coming back for more!

To me, the animations did make me pay more attention to certain elements of the Q & A story, and the style of animation pays homage to the organic, rough-around-the-edges feel of these stories. I think a lot could be learned from this interpretation for future animators who want to tackle the same kind of repurposed content.

@storycorps pointed me to an article on Twitter with some background at the New York Times which was great because it explains the resistance to repurposing something that already works. It's a particular challenge because there are people who have emotionally invested in the original. It's like when a movie does a fine job of reinterpreting a beloved book - its success is even greater because they managed to get buy-in from the fans.

In other words, you and your brother did a great job, in my opinion...

When Kym and I moved into our house last august, we didn't get cable. We still watch a few shows via torrents, and occasionally would find ways to watch shows live on a friends TV (Lost premiere and finale). I think your observation that the TV was just replaced by mindless computering is totally accurate.

What I plan to eventually do is actually get a new HDTV, and got the antennae route. We're in east york now, and apparently we can pick up quite a bit HD content around here with a bit of metal in the attic.

The only thing i miss is being able to watch baseball on TV. But really, the radio is a way better way to follow a game anyway, short of being there. At least IMO.

@Christopher
They probably don't want to purchase the database of data, or maybe our Canadian government doesn't want to participate in the verification program by sharing our credit card and telephone data (yay!)

Although I recall I was able to verify a Google Business Center account (for Google maps ads) just fine??

I just checked out the form to verify identity by phone and it only has a dropdown for USA. And they state in their "Name Verification FAQ" that verification is only available to US accounts: http://knol.google.com/k/-/name-verification-faq/

I think they should be a little more upfront about it (front page?), but I don't get why it's limited to the US.

Wow. Hopefully it's something that will be fixed soon. Strange that it wouldn't even work via a phone number. I've had issues buying things with a Canadian credit card.

Anyone else experiencing issues?

Quick! Start up a Canadian counterpart! Knoul.ca?

Did you email them?
